The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) general secretary
Suzgo Nyirenda returned from South Africa over the weekend after holding talks
with Bloemfontein Celtic over the release of Malawian internationals Frank
'Gabadinho' Mhango and Limbikani Mzava.
Nyirenda confirmed to SuperSport.com that, while in South
Africa, he pleaded with Celtic coach Ernst Middendorp for the release of the
duo to this Saturday's 2015 Africa Cup of Nations second qualifying round,
second leg match which falls outside the Fifa window of scheduled games.
Celtic were also not obliged to release the duo for the away
leg which the Flames lost 1-0 in Benin, hence Nyirenda's mission to South
Africa ahead of Saturday's must-win at the Kamuzu Stadium, Blantyre.
"I would say it was a successful trip, as at first,
Celtic did not see the need to release the players since the club also has
crucial assignments this Friday. We are glad that they accepted our
request," Nyirenda explained.
The FAM GS also contacted University of Pretoria, Polokwane
City and Platinum Stars over the availability of Atusaye Nyondo, Esau Kanyenda
and Robert Ng'ambi who has just returned to action after a prolonged injury.
Ng'ambi remains a doubt as he is still his way back to match
fitness.
