The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has offered Coach
Stephen Keshi an improved contract that will pay him N7million per month (over
$44,000), a top official who pleaded for anonymity has revealed.
Keshi, after the World Cup in Brazil demanded that he be
paid N10m, which is about twice the amount he was paid before the Mundial.
National Mirror further gathered that Keshi, who was not
considered for the vacant post of South Africa Bafana Bafana coaching job, is
expected to finalise his new deal with the NFF next week.
The official who said he had been part of the contract talks
revealed that Keshi has said he wishes to continue as the Super Eagles coach.
“We have had meetings with Keshi and the good news is that
he is willing to continue as coach of the Super Eagles. He is only concerned
that most of the fringe benefits in his contract were not provided and demands
better treatment from the Federation.
“I think the first step was a success and we will build on
it because the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers are not far away,” he
said. Yesterday, the NFF Executive Committee approved that Acting President,
Mike Umeh, should convene a meeting of the Emergency Committee to finalise and
approve Keshi’s new contract.
