Germany
midfielder Mesut
Ozil, has donated a
portion of the
money he received
after they won the
World Cup, to 11
Brazilian children
who are
undergoing
surgery.
The Arsenal player, who had already supported 11 kids that
needed operations before the World Cup, says he will donate
more to help their health conditions.
“Prior to the World Cup I supported the surgery of eleven
sick children [in Brazil],” Ozil wrote on his official Facebook
page.
“Since the victory
of the World Cup
is not only due to
eleven players but
to our whole team,
I will now raise the
number to 23.”
According to
reports, each
member of the Die
Mannschaft
earned around
€300 000 (R4.3
million) each, for defeating Argentina in the final of the
tournament, to win their fourth World Cup title.
Although initial reports claimed Ozil donated his winnings to
the war-torn region oof Gaza, his agent Roland Eitel has since
denied such stories.
“The claim that Mesut donated money to Gaza is not true,”
Eital told International Business Times.
“Maybe in the
future, who
knows? He
donated money to
causes in Brazil
and he is now on
holiday.”
