Nigeria’s sprint queen, Blessing Okagbare, last night at the Hampden Park Stadium became the fastest woman in the Commonwealth of Nations as she won the gold medal in the final of women’s 100metres race in the ongoing Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

In a field that had three Jamaicans in the final –Veronica Campbell-Brown, S. Calvert and Kathrine Stewart – the Nigerian sprint sensation crossed the finish line on 10.85secs to set a new Games Record. But the time falls short of her 10.79secs Personal Best.

Another Jamiacan, Kathrene Stewart won bronze on 11.07secs. Nigeria’s other finalist, Gloria Asunmu, finished last with 11.41secs.

In the men’s final, Jamaica’s Bailey Cole won on a time of 10.00secs, while Britain’s Adam Gemili picked the silver medal on 10.10. Another Jamaican, N. Ashmeade won bronze with 10.12. Nigeria has now won three gold medals at the Games.
